Should my KDP interior be set up with bleed or no bleed?
Use bleed only if artwork or backgrounds touch the page edge. With bleed, KDP adds 0.125 in to the top, bottom and outside edge, so an 8.5 × 11 in page is built at 8.625 × 11.25 in. Most word search and puzzle interiors are no-bleed; activity books with full-page art use bleed. Your file is set up for whichever your book needs.
How do you keep puzzles out of the gutter margin?
KDP's minimum inside margin grows with page count: 0.375 in for 24–150 pages, 0.5 in for 151–300, 0.625 in for 301–500, 0.75 in for 501–700 and 0.875 in for 701–828. Your interior is built to the margin for your final page count, with outside margins of at least 0.25 in (0.375 in with bleed).
How is spine thickness calculated for a full-wrap cover?
Spine width = page count × paper thickness: 0.002252 in per page for white paper, 0.0025 in for cream and 0.002347 in for premium color. A 120-page book on white paper has a 0.270 in spine. KDP only allows spine text from 79 pages. Use the free KDP Cover Calculator on this site to get your exact dimensions.
Do I get full commercial publishing rights?
Yes. Every order includes full commercial rights. You can publish and sell unlimited paperback, hardcover and ebook copies on Amazon KDP and IngramSpark, and you keep 100% of your royalties.
What happens if Amazon KDP rejects my file?
Files are checked against KDP's trim, bleed, margin and spine specifications before delivery. If KDP still flags a formatting problem, send the message you received and the file is corrected at no extra cost. That is the Zero Rejection Guarantee.
